January 4 2011, Mumtaz Hussain Qadri former policeman and security guard for Governor Salman Taseer, shot him dead. Reason behind shooting was for Governor’s remarks on Pakistan’s controversial blasphemy law. Quadi was charged with murder and committing an act of terrorism since shooting took place in a public setting. Quadi asked his lawyer not to go for an appeal as he stated, “Don't go for an appeal. I can't wait to see (the Prophet) Mohammed in heaven. I am proud that my sacrifice has been accepted by God.” Quadi argues he did not commit murder this was indeed an act according to the guidelines of the Quran and teachings of Prophet Mohammed. Trial was conducted by Pakistan’s anti-terrorist court in which he has been convicted and sentenced to death.
NAIROBI, Kenya- Militant terrorist group Al-Shabaab has recently been under attack by the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) . Colonel Cyrus Oguna, in charge of information and operation at the Department of Defense said, “Al Shabaab only has three options; to defect; surrender or leave Somalia as they have limited options. Their resistance is crumbling, their logistics are getting disabled day by day.” Recently, the KDF in collaboration with the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) forces destroyed many of the camps and weapons used by the Al-Shabaab. Nine Al-Shabaab fighters were seriously injured by air raids at militant training camps in El Adde Township, and top leader of the militant group was recently captured by KDF and is being interviewed and interrogated for details about the militia and its networks in the country. 16 November 2011 A fertilizer plant in northern Egypt is the location of a clash between the Egyptian army and protestors. Protestors were against the pollution caused by the plant. Causalities include one man dead and 11 people injured. Within the last six days, demonstrators used blockage of the port town of Damietta to use to protest the plant. The plant officials have announced the potential production of two more plants locally, which is causing the protesting. The fertilizer plant received news that they are no longer able to operate by Egypt’s ruling military council. These types of activism is becoming more frequent, now under the post Mubarak ruling. State-owned Misr Oil Processing Company and Canada’s Agrium currently jointly own the plant. The residents took to the streets on Tuesday demanding the relocation of the plant. Al-Shabaab and Kenya have been constantly exchanging insults through twitter, regarded as a media war. Emmanuel, Kenya’s army spokesman who currently has a twitter account with 10,000 followers, posts updates on the military state of play in the incursion into Somalia. With the screen name @HSMPress Al-Shabaab has joined the twitter community, it has currently posted 80 times and has about 3000 followers. Starting it first tweet in Arabic with a Qu’ranic phrase saying “ In the name of god, the most gracious, the most merciful.” Al-Shabaab has released its messages in fluent English. In recent months, Al-Shabaab has been running sophisticated media operations, including press releases in English with photos attached to them.
