Twelve Al-Qaeda Members Executed

24 November 2011

BAGHDAD- Twelve men who are all members of Al-Qaeda terrorist group were hanged today for their roles in a 2006 Dujail wedding ceremony massacre that killed 70 people. According to the Iraqi authorities, the criminals attacked a convoy of wedding vehicles in a north Baghdad street, raping women, killing men and hanging massive weights around 15 children aged between two to 12, then throwing them in a river to drown. During the month of June of this year, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani authorized his deputy, Khudair al-Khuzaie to sign the death sentences of the 15 men after intense pressure from the political blocs and the Iraqi public to bring the perpetrators of “terror” crimes against the population to justice. Iraq’s criminal court found 34 men guilty of the massacre 15 of which were sentenced to death. Three of the 15 have not been hanged yet due to legal procedure.
