Kandahar Officials Concerned About Transition with NATO


Kabul, Afghanistan - On Tuesday, Lawmakers in Kandahar expressed concerns regarding a transition from NATO, stating Kandahar, the birthplace of the Taliban, should be the last region NATO hands over. Lawmakers claim Afghan forces are not ready to take on full security responsibility for the area. Kandahar legislators worry that NATO will hand over the region in weeks. NATO plans to withdraw its combat forces by 2012. Both peaceful and violent regions will be handed over.
